Our Investment Process

Our people at TCK Trust & Financial Advisors (TCK) offer many advantages to our clients.  You work with decision-makers when you work with our experienced trust administrators.  Planning solutions is our specialty.  Our knowledgeable people will help clients plan for retirement as well as complete their estate planning.  Investment planning is something we do every day. At TCK, we are always your advocate, never an adversary.

So why use the investment services of TCK Trust & Financial Advisors?  TCK is a regulated financial institution that is governed by Kansas statutes.  Trust statutes are in place for the protection of our trust clients.  While all the statutes are important for the successful operation of a trust, the Kansas Uniform Prudent Investor Act (KUPIA) is at the focus of this article.

TCK Trust & Financial Advisors is required to concentrate on the needs of each relationship (i.e., trust agreement, investment management account, Conservatorship, retirement plan, etc.) and to develop an investment philosophy that is appropriate for each relationship.  We focus on (1) the purpose (objective) of the relationship, (2) the ability and willingness of our clients to take risks, and (3) the expected time horizon.

We diversify all discretionary accounts into the appropriate asset categories.  The Trust Investment Committee (TIC) approves the asset allocation percentages for each account as well as the mutual fund or stock and bond selections.  For a perspective of which categories of assets are appropriate to satisfy the Kansas Uniform Prudent Investor Act, TCK uses the expertise of a Chicago and Pittsburgh firms for historical data.  All investment decisions, however, are made by the TIC, using over 300 plus years of trust investment experience for appropriate asset allocation and diversification. Your trust administrators comprise the TIC.

TCK Trust & Financial Advisors’ Trust Investment Committee is quite active. It maintains a “Recommended List ” of securities and reviews it weekly.  Our Investment Analyst follows the markets on a daily basis and makes recommendations to the TIC.  The analyst monitors mutual fund selections daily and formally reviews them weekly using the daily Morning Star historical analysis.  Asset allocation changes for all our clients are formally reviewed quarterly, based on the outlook for the next quarter.

There is no one sure way to be successful with investments over the long-term.  Our experienced members of the TIC understand this.  We work with clients to develop a workable strategy with which they are comfortable. While market timing may work occasionally, a more prudent plan is to be invested for the long-term within the appropriate categories of investments, monitoring all the investments for superior relative performance.  We will use a combination of stock, bonds and no-load mutual funds to achieve our clients’ objectives.

It is important to remember that other providers of investment advice may not be under the same fiduciary responsibility as TCK.  Many providers hide behind prospectuses, shifting the investment responsibility to the client (the “buyer beware” scenario).  At TCK, we know we are always responsible to operate under the Kansas statutes that protect the consumer.  We wouldn’t have it any other way.  It is the TCK Trust & Financial Advisors difference.
